RockShox Revelation: We're not the only ones...

13 July 2008: See our review update here...

Recently, Charlie asked me if I still liked the RockShox Revelation that I've had on test since last fall. For the first time in a while, I had to stop and think about it. For the first time since the Marzocchi XC700 SL was working properly, I wasn't constantly cursing and/or fiddling with a fork. Sure, I hadn't been riding my 'trail' bike as much since the higher trails around Albuquerque got snowy, but they're dry again the Maverick is getting taken out more and more.

Over the past year, Pace's RC40 Fighter was good on both small and large bumps but a bit too flaky. Neither the XC700 or TALAS could match the Mav's small bump compliance, leaving the front end of the bike feeling harsh and (occasionally) overwhelmed when paired with the competent and controlled rear suspension.

Why is it, then, that we never see them around? Sure, Fox has the name, but has Rock Shox fallen that far? Maybe it's just it be the low-key color and graphics and the fact that it goes about doing a very good job without drawing attention to itself. BikeRadar (which pulls its reviews from several UK print magazines) call the Revelation "stiff, smooth, simple to use and very reliable. Our trail fork winner." I'm not the only one then. Stay tuned for a full review in a couple of months.
